A day on the frozen Lake Inari
Experience one of Lapland’s oldest winter traditions on Finland’s largest Arctic lake. Drill your own hole through the thick ice, drop your line into the clear water below – and enjoy the silence of Lake Inari while you wait for a bite.
Hop into the sleigh – your guide pulls you by snowmobile across the snowy landscape to one of Janne’s favourite fishing spots on Lake Inari. Typical catches are perch, whitefish, grayling and pike – and sometimes the lake surprises us with something bigger. Whether you land a trophy fish or simply enjoy the moment, this is a genuinely Finnish experience.
Our fire sleigh comes along too – a small, custom-built fireplace on runners. On the ice it becomes the heart of the tour: a place to warm up, enjoy the atmosphere and taste the snacks your guide prepares on the fire.
No experience needed – just warm clothes and a bit of patience. The fish will do the rest.

How the day goes
- Pick-upWe collect you from your accommodation in Ivalo. The exact time is agreed by phone before the tour.
- 10:00 · Gear upWarm overalls, boots and gloves on, and a quick introduction to ice fishing.
- Sleigh ride to the lakeYour guide pulls you by snowmobile to the fishing spot.
- On the iceWe drill the holes, start fishing and light the fire.
- Around 13:30 · Back to your accommodationWe drop you off where we picked you up.
Good to know
- Wear warm base and mid layers (merino wool is best) and woollen socks – we provide the overalls, boots and gloves.
- Children from 4 years are welcome. Little ones get cold more easily, but the fire on the ice keeps everyone warm.
- Your guide is happy to take photos of you with your own camera or phone.
- Extra: rent our underwater camera and watch the fish under the ice – 20 €.
- Pick-up from outside Ivalo can be arranged on request – just ask.
- The tour is run in English.

Choose your date
Send a booking request – this is not yet a confirmed booking. We’ll confirm your booking by email within 24 hours and call you about 1–1.5 hours before the tour to agree on the pick-up. Season: 1 December – 10 April.
Cancellation policy: cancellations made less than 4 days before the tour are charged 100% of the total price. Payment on the day by card or cash.
